Welcome (back)! last post I left off with saying that the top speed of minecarts should be adjusted to 24m/s *without needing to adjust a game rule*.
Let's talk about rails!
Rails are expensive! Although automatic farms help out with this, what if players want to build large rails without the grind? You need at least as many rails as you want blocks to travel so I propose that rails now give 32/24 (16/8 more), powered rails now give 16 (10 more), and detector and activator rails give 8 (2 more), with the original recipes.
In addition to changing recipes, copper rails should be added with a crafting recipe similar to activator rails, but with copper instead of iron, also yielding 8 rails. Their behavior would be adjusting the minecarts max speed depending on the signal strength going into the rail (8m/s = 1, 24m/s = 15). I have seen many videos about minecart intersections, and these (along with other existing minecart contraptions) don't work well with higher max speeds, so being able to change a minecarts max speed between different areas of the track would be very useful.
Powered rails could be adjusted to change the minecarts speed by a predictable amount (ex: 1m/s per rail or -1m/s if unpowered) and then slowing down when going over a copper rail or over some amount of tracks (perhaps the speed would begin the decrease only after passing over a certain amount of non-powered rails)
