I have an idea for a "Router Block" that I think the community would adore. What I'm imagining is a block where a hopper or such can feed an item to this new block, which then compares against up to two slotted samples. If the item matches a slotted sample item, it pushed the item out the corresponding side. If it does not match, it simply pushed the item out the front. As with dispensers, droppers, and crafters, it could either output the item to another block (say a hopper, chest, or even another Router Block) or simply eject it to the ground.
Not only would allow for sorting items that don't stack like shears and boats, the footprint needed for sorting would shrink considerably. The popular 16x5 sorting contraption becomes a 3x8 space and doesn't require 41 items and 4 filler blocks in a hopper to accomplish the same thing.
I think this would be an easy block to program into the game, as the functions to pass along a block (like the hopper) and match items (thinking of the copper golem and the crafter) already exist in the game.
