Why doesn't a stone chest exist?

Stone chests were originally intended to be included in Ancient Cities. Had they been added, players wouldn't have needed to return to the surface for wood while mining underground. While the warmth of wood is important, I believe that being able to capture the solid, substantial feel of stone would greatly enhance the world of Minecraft.
