Adding the separation of fresh and salt water as well as a hydration bar.
The water bar would help stave off hunger damage until its too low. Water could be filtered at a workbench that requires a fuel type and ignition to start boiling a bucket(s) of water into a Gourd flasks or Leather flasks. The reason I say Gourd is its an early game accessible plant based item for survival while being based on actual flask/water bottles made out of gourds, I'd imagine the Gourd flask consists of a copper nugget, beeswax, and the hollowed gourd (similar to using shears on pumpkins). The leather variant could hold larger volumes of liquid while being made of Leather, Iron/Gold nugget, and possibly something else like string to tie it together.
I think this would be a great way to teach younger generations the importance of staying hydrated especially in hotter climate areas like the desert. Equally this could eventually teach kids the difference between salt water and fresh water lifeforms and the importance of knowing which belongs where and for why. For gameplay this would create an interesting play in seeking thunderstorms as a way to gather pure water quickly and/or a break from the sun dehydrating the player but that comes with its cost making a clear day just a dangerous as the rainy ones but does give opportunity to for rainy days to have more use then watering crops. side note is rivers would have cleaner water if its moving so you cant just drink from any puddle without issues.
