Invisible Lanterns (Ambient Light Blocks)
During a recent update, a visual glitch caused standard lanterns to become invisible while still emitting full light. This created an amazing ambient‑lighting effect that allowed us to illuminate builds without visible fixtures. Only a faint outline appeared when standing very close, similar to how a single glass pane shows its border. This temporary behavior was incredibly useful and visually appealing, and we would love to see it return as an intentional feature.
Proposed Block: Invisible Lantern A light‑emitting block that functions exactly like a lantern but is invisible from normal viewing distance. When the player is within 1–2 blocks, a subtle outline appears so the block can be located or removed. It would place anywhere lanterns can be placed and emit the same light level.
Why This Would Be Valuable • Enables ambient lighting without visible fixtures • Preserves architectural aesthetics in themed builds • Reduces visual clutter from torches and lanterns • Helps creators maintain immersion in adventure maps • Supports modern, fantasy, sci‑fi, and minimalist builds
This glitch briefly showed how powerful invisible ambient lighting could be. We would love to see it added as an official building tool.
