    just logged in to suggest this and saw 2 or 3 other posts about it, so i'm voting for all!

    i agree 100%, anything that adds more interactions and movement also gives life to the game. i love building towns for villagers, it would be super cute to have them sit down on cushions that are within a short range!!

    I'd also adjust villager behavior so they sit on cushions if they are in a structure that can be considered a chair.

    When a villager has a job, only those with a job that is often done while sitting would sit down:

    * Fishermen
    * Toolsmiths
    * Cartographers
    * Fletchers
    * Cleric
    * Librarian

    They would arrive at their job block and check a 5x5 square around it, ignoring corners, so just 20 blocks to check. If any of those blocks are reachable, have air in at least 5 blocks around it and 2 blocks over it, and have a cushion that isn't inside a block, other than those that would still allow seeing most of the cushion, like stairs, slabs, a banner, etc., they'll sit on it.

    Nitwits and unemployed villagers would sit whenever they want as part of their random villager behaviors. If they get "I feel like sitting", they'll look for a cushion nearby, check if it isn't near a job block, and if it isn't, sit on it for 1-4 in-game hours.

    The same goes for socializing villagers off the clock. They may sit sometimes as part of their random behaviors.
