Sometimes when you first spawn into a new world, finding sheep for a bed can take a long time depending on the biome. This often forces players to spend the entire first day searching for sheep instead of exploring or building.
My idea is to add a Meditation mechanic that lets players skip the night without setting their spawn point.
How it would work:
- Place a log on the ground.
- Put three torches around it (one in front and one on each side).
- Sit on the log to begin meditating.
- If there are no hostile mobs nearby for about 10 seconds, meditation begins.
- If nothing interrupts you during the night, time skips to morning, just like sleeping in a bed.
- Unlike a bed, meditation does not set your spawn point.
This would give players another way to survive their first few nights while still making beds useful, since beds would remain the only way to set a respawn point. It could also add atmosphere and role-playing opportunities without replacing beds.
