I'd like to suggest a new ecosystem mechanic based on real marine biology.
Barnacles could grow on Leatherback Sea Turtles, slowing them down and making them aggressive until cleaned.
Sea Otters could become a new passive mob. Like real otters, they would carry cobblestone to crack shells while floating on their backs. At night, they could hold hands while sleeping on the water.
Sea Otters would naturally remove and eat Barnacles from Leatherbacks, restoring the turtles to normal. Players could also collect Barnacles and use them to tame or breed Sea Otters.
Players could craft Anti-Barnacle Wax using Pufferfish + Honeycomb. Applying the wax would protect Leatherbacks from Barnacles. As an extra feature, hostile mobs touching the waxed shell could become poisoned and slowed.
I think this would introduce a realistic symbiotic relationship that adds life to Minecraft's oceans while connecting naturally with existing crafting mechanics.
