The current "Add-on" system in Minecraft Bedrock Edition is becoming too restrictive. Most add-ons are just "re-skins" or slight behavior tweaks of existing mobs—essentially putting new costumes on old skeletons. This limits creativity and leads to repetitive content.
Why this needs to change:
Creative Stagnation: Creators are hitting a glass ceiling. Many talented modders are moving to Java Edition because they want to create unique mechanics, custom animations, and complex AI that Bedrock’s current architecture doesn't allow.
True Modding vs. Re-skinning: We need tools that allow for genuine innovation—the ability to add new entities and logic that aren't just copies of base-game mobs.
Player Retention: If Bedrock remains a closed ecosystem, players will continue to migrate to Java, where the modding community is truly free.
My Proposal:
We don’t necessarily need the entire source code to be public, but we do need a much more powerful and flexible API for scripting. We need tools that allow us to build from scratch rather than just repainting the base-game.
If Microsoft wants Bedrock to stay competitive, it must empower its creators to innovate. Please, give us the tools to make Bedrock as versatile as Java, or at least open the doors to true custom entity creation. Let’s keep Minecraft growing through the creativity of its community.
