I think this would be a very expensive but also very valuable way to make rails faster while also maintaining the current speed for redstone purposes. This is not my original idea, I just saw this on the Minecraft server CivMC and it just seems like a good idea for the vanilla game to me. Also you should able to place the copper blocks under the block the rail is on. Like if the rail is on cobblestone you could place the copper under the cobblestone to get the same affect. Riding on the rail a lot also deteriorates the copper, and the more green the copper is the slower it will make the rail. Fully green copper will still be faster than no copper at all, but much slower than orange copper. I think its good to increase the speed of rail travel while adding the extra challenge of actually maintaining your rails.
