Make the sniffer useful by adding a new green wood set, allowing the players to bring back an extinct biome.
Almost Sustainable
The new wood should drop saplings. However, the rate at which the saplings drop should not be enough for the wood to be fully sustainable. This will force the player to keep returning to the sniffer to get more saplings, but less frequently to avoid the sniffer from becoming a nuisance. This "almost sustainable" drop rate also serves as a reason for why this tree type got extinct.
Why Green?
Mostly because we have all the other colors for wood except for green. It would be amazing for builders and it just feels natural for minecraft to have a green wood type.
Why Not a New Biome?
There isn't really a "green" wood type in the real world, and therefore it does not make much sense to add a new biome with green wood in the overworld. When it comes to the nether and the end, the color green does not fit there stylistically. Therefore, adding this new wood type through the sniffer is the best way to keep in theme with the rest of the game. And most importantly this makes the sniffer much more useful to the players, giving them new building blocks and a chance to bring back an extinct biome.
