The current progression to reach the End only requires Blaze Powder and Ender Pearls. While simple, it leaves many Minecraft structures and gameplay systems optional and often ignored.
My proposal is to replace the activation of the End Portal with a system of 12 Adventure Keys.
Each End Portal frame would first need to be unlocked with a key before an Eye of Ender can be inserted.
The keys would be obtained through different Minecraft activities, encouraging players to experience all major gameplay systems:
- Raids, Mansions, and Pillager content
- Ocean Monuments and ocean exploration
- Bastions and Nether challenges
- Ancient Cities and stealth gameplay
- Archaeology
- Trial Chambers
- Mineshaft exploration
- Villager trading
- Defeating the Wither
- Village exploration across different biomes
- General structure exploration
- A craftable player-made key
The goal is not to make the game harder, but to make reaching the End feel like a true adventure that uses Minecraft's existing content.
Additionally, players could obtain rare Omni-Key fragments through fishing. One Omni-Key could be crafted per world and used to replace a single Adventure Key, allowing players to skip one challenge they do not enjoy.
This would make defeating the Ender Dragon feel like the conclusion of a journey across the entire Minecraft world rather than a short trip involving only Blaze Powder and Ender Pearls.
