I'm also experiencing this issue! Running 26.2 Java and *barely* getting 50-60 fps with shaders enabled, maybe 80-100 fps without them. This is also with performance mods installed (though I've tested with them removed and my performance is expectantly worse).

Back on version 26.1.2 I had the same setup with my shaders also nearly maxed out and had a beautiful gameplay experience with 90-100+ fps in even the laggiest parts of my world. The difference between versions is day and night with this update and not in a good way.

For those of us that play together on realms this is also deal-breaking. The servers automatically update when someone loads the new version resulting in everyone else also being stuck with this degraded performance. I understand the current entity updates and navigating the shift from OpenGL to Vulkan is an undertaking but as stated, the game is already horribly optimized. Now, there is an objective reality that a decent amount of people are going to be pushed out of playing the game by these changes making it physically impossible to play or enjoy.

I implore for action to be taken on this.

Edit: Forgot to mention my GPU isn't even being fully utilized now. I had it set to throttle and now it uses roughly 20% less despite trying to do everything in my power to remedy this.

Yep same here, I was multiple shaders around 90 fps on 26.1.1 and those same shaders with all the same updated mods im at 70 to 51 fps with the craziest lag spikes. Runs like trash.

I also have the same issue, I ran shaders max render distance 32 chunks, could open inventory while flying elytra around, and now I updated and its just so laggy,  The thing that lags the most is opening chests or going into your inventory, it freezes for a frame or two for like half a second.

I changed all settings to lowest but that barley helps. I did create a backup of the world.

I hope this is a wider problem so that Mojang recognizes it and fixes it

i also had this issue, i got my framerate pretty much back to normal by setting the graphics API to "Prefer OpenGL." even though default is supposed to be functionally the same, it seems to still drop frames. the setting doesn't appear to be visible on sodium, but if you search for "API" that will make it magically appear.

Samer issue for me running a high-end PC (albeit, with shaders and performance mods installed). Whereas in previous versions, I was able to get 160 fps consistently from high areas in the same jungle biome, I am now achieving around 106 fps at 100% GPU usage (reminiscent of the issues present with the 1.21.5 release about a year back). All the settings, mods and shader(s) are the same the only altered variable is the Minecraft version (26.1.2 got 160fps and 26.2 barely makes it past 106 fps). This is when the graphics API is set to OpenGL and Default.

It has been impossible to play the game for me since the start of the 26.1 Java snapshots, even if I go back to earlier game versions. In a (new) flat world with no spawning on, no weather updates, no time of day updates, and nothing growing, I open a chest... wait one or more minutes... tap forward... wait... nothing loads, blocks don't break, etc.

I have no mods, no shaders, and no other programs running on my computer. I have built nothing, there is no redstone, no animals, no mobs. It's got to be that the new engine, or something in the update, simply won't run on my 2021 computer. It ran perfectly in 25, (Java) no lag like this.

For people with merely average machines, this update has broken the game entirely.

It will soon become unplayable, and we'll have to migrate to Bedrock.

I am experiencing the same problem. I play on a 15inch MacBook Air M4 at native resolution, fancy graphics and 12 Chunks render distance (vanilla). I used to get 120 FPS with vsync and approx. 180 without. Since 26.2, FPS rarely exceed 70 FPS and vary dramatically, often dropping below 30 for no apparent reason. I have not changed any settings.

Hello, i have a issue that in 26.1.2 same mods+settings and photon shader on high preset gives 90+ stable FPS on my pc while 26.2 same mods+settings gives 40-50 FPS and very laggyin photon shader in any preset (Low,Medium,High).
