In recent years, Mojang Studios made a commendable shift toward inclusivity. To celebrate major milestones—such as the historic 15th Anniversary of Minecraft—Mojang partnered with global social media platforms like Twitch and TikTok to distribute free promotional capes, including the Purple Heart Cape and the TikTok Follower's Cape. These events were designed as joyful community celebrations, allowing millions of players worldwide to participate in the history of the game they love without a financial barrier. However, a critical vulnerability in the backend infrastructure of Microsoft and Mojang's code redemption system has turned these symbols of celebration into tools of exploitation. Although promotional materials explicitly state that these codes have a strict expiration date, the backend database continues to validate and accept these 25-digit tokens months, and sometimes years, after the events have officially concluded. This open door has birthed a massive, predatory, and highly lucrative secondary black market. We are writing this document to make Mojang fully aware of how this technical oversight rewards malicious scalpers, punishes innocent players, and fundamentally undermines the integrity of Minecraft’s cosmetic economy.
