In dappled forests, and in forests in general, owls and squirrels will appear. They will live in the trees and function similarly to bees. Owls and squirrels will appear near hollow logs, which are normal logs with a hole on one side and can be found in all types of trees. During the day, owls will hide in the hollow logs, and at night, squirrels will hide there instead. Some logs will be home to owls, and others to squirrels, but they will be clearly separated, since owls prey on squirrels. Once the animals are inside their respective logs, you can harvest the log using “silk touch”, keeping the animals inside, similar to bee hives. Over time, owl feathers and acorns will appear in these logs (both items can be obtained in other ways, but this will provide a renewable source of them). Owls and squirrels may spawn without a hollow log nearby, but this will be rare. Squirrels can be bred using acorns, which, in addition to being found in the hollow logs where squirrels spawn, may also drop from the leaves of certain trees. Squirrels will only drop squirrel meat when they die. Owls can be bred using squirrel meat, and when they die, they will drop owl feathers.
