I propose introducing a progressive degradation mechanic for armor based on its durability: instead of being binary (remaining fully effective until it breaks), armor would gradually lose effectiveness once it drops below a certain critical threshold (e.g., 15%). This change, paired with clear visual indicators such as textures showing cracks or signs of wear, would make equipment maintenance more meaningful and add a welcome layer of tactical tension to combat and exploration. By making armor upkeep essential, this feature would enhance the 'survival' aspect of the game while adding more depth to enchantments like Unbreaking and Mending, all without cluttering the UI with complex statistics. It would even be possible to add an enchantment to reduce the negative effects of breakage.
