Dear Mojang,
Attribute swapping is a core combat mechanic that underpins the mace, spear-style setups, and shield interactions. Since recent 1.21.x updates, its behavior has become inconsistent or broken on many servers, especially those aiming to mirror vanilla. This undermines PvP balance, makes new combat content feel unreliable, and fragments the community between versions and server implementations.
What we’re asking for:
- Restore consistent, documented vanilla attribute-swapping behavior across all 1.21.x versions.
- Publish a short technical note clarifying intended order-of-operations and timing (equip/offhand/main-hand swap, tick timing, and modifier precedence).
- Add regression tests to prevent future breakage and help downstream server projects maintain parity.
Why it matters:
- Mace and shield PvP, as well as custom adventure/minigame design, rely on predictable attribute application.
- Servers and creators need stability to keep players engaged and to design fair experiences.
We love Minecraft’s combat evolution—please help us keep it consistent and reliable by fixing and clearly specifying attribute swapping. Thank you for listening.
