Revert the 26.2-pre-2 changes on Attribute Swapping

On the latest snapshot you can no longer quickly swap from one item to another and retain its attributes/use case. This change not only patched PvP techniques (breach swapping, lunge swapping, ...) used by tens if not hundreds of thousands of players, but it also makes performing actions quickly much more difficult.

For example, a use case of the previous item switching system was a technique often referred to as 'Breach Swapping'. By holding a fully charged Netherite Sword with an attribute of 8 attack damage you would quickly switch to a Mace with the Breach IV enchantment and click. What this would do is take the attack damage of the sword and practically apply it to the Mace, making the Mace deal the sword's damage while retaining its properties of performing smash attacks and being enchanted with breach.

This 'bug' is no longer simply an error in the game's code, as its been in the game for so long that it has been accepted by players as a staple of the game rather than a problem that needs to be fixed.

This still stands after 26.2-pre-3, since they claim that Attribute Swapping will be patched in future snapshots.

    If these changes go through Minecraft will lose more then half the PvP community and kill all mace game modes and destroy shields aswell

    Mojang doing this right after i mastered attribute swapping is genuinely making me so mad. Its a hard technique to master, plus its been in the game so long theres no point in removing it

    Why would attribute swapping ever had gone into consideration to be removed? It is essential for Minecraft PVP, removing it would essentially erase many combat forms or nearly make them impossible to play. For example, Spear Macing removing attribute swapping makes it really slow paced because of the slow Lunge cooldown. This would be a stupid decision and would cause outrage inside of Minecraft Communities.

    • `"attribute swapping is unbalanced".  Look it has been in the game for years on end and it isnt a hard mech to pick up and learn as someone who has coached people in Minecraft Mace PvP, Spear PvP, and Axe, attribute swapping is not a problem skill wise with how easy people ive coached picked it up, sure it is a non-intentional game design, but it has been learned my millions all over the world has learned and follow suit with the others, and also for all the people saying it "ruins Minecraft's casual aspect" if it truly ruined it then i think that PvP isnt a thing for you since Minecraft has a singleplayer mode

    Why would they even remove it? It effects a huge community and has little to no effect to anyone else this is the same thing with stuns

    It’s sad to see so much resistance to this important and positive change, which I believe is the best change to Minecraft PvP in years. Attribute swapping is the cancer of modern PvP; it’s unbalanced and not fun. A question to those who are against fixing this bug - imagine that this bug never existed; would you want it added? Imagine you’re creating a modpack and, while browsing mods, you see one that adds this mechanic -would you think it’s a great idea and add it to the pack?

    And why does it matter how long the bug has been in the game? A bug should be fixed regardless of whether it’s been in the game for 1 day or 15 years.

    The attribute swap is litterly the coolest feature if you remove it maybe minecraft loses his hype again and you can travel very quick with it and pvp good

    This doesn't just affect PVP, if anybody has ever switched to a block or item and used it quickly, they likely used attribute swapping. Now block placements and using really anything after switching has a 50ms delay on top of whatever your ping is, I'm sure many builders and casual players might notice things being weirdly inconsistent at times, awful change.

    Keeping this change implemented would change all of PVP forever. Instacarts will no longer be possible, crystal and anchor PVP would be significantly slowed down, stun slams would be impossible, shield stun would also be impossible, along with tons of other changes that would fundamentally ruin PVP altogether.

    Its been such an important aspect to the game... Removing it will nearly end the pvp community. No more advanced pvp techniques  I guess. Dont remove it if you want to keep the pvp aspect alive

    This ruins pvp. I think this will be 1.9 all over again, with everyone stuck on 26.1 or lower if they want to do any fighting becuase this also affects regular hotkeying not just attribute swapping

    please don't remove this. this is an EXTREMELY fun glitch in the game that has made me extremely happy. When you released the spear, I learned how to lunge-swap. By far the most fun thing I have ever done. PLS DON'T REMOVE!!!!

    I really think this patch is a good thing. I think they should keep attribute swapping patched, and then work with the community to make pvp better. INSTEAD of keeping this bugged feature in the game. Yes, I know we all are used to it, but this is a classic case of the Region-Beta Paradox. We have a bright future ahead!

    In my opinion, this update significantly reduces the flexibility and depth of Minecraft’s gameplay. Attribute behavior was previously more intuitive and allowed for a wider range of creative builds and combat setups, which is a core part of what makes Minecraft unique.

    Since this change has a noticeable impact on how players interact with mechanics, I believe it would be best if it were fully reverted to the original system rather than adjusted or made optional.

    The previous system felt more natural, consistent, and aligned with how players understand attributes in both survival and creative environments. This new change feels restrictive and takes away from experimentation.

    I really hope you’ll consider returning to the original behavior in a future update.

    This is so stupid it makes things in mace just not possible and makes the breach enchantment not that useful, like for breach swapping. Come on, Mojang.

    removing attribute swapping would honestly make spears almost completely obsolete in pvp other than elytra spear, this would also make lunge almost completely useless due to it now having a really long cooldown

    This is a main part in the pvp community you can't just remove it, most concepts of advance pvp is based on attribute swapping
