Exploring the ancient cities and challenging the warden doesn't have much of a reward/incentive besides the current loot chests right now but it's the perfect opportunity to introduce a new type of armor/tool equivalent to netherite. This is also a great chance to break away from the current linear armor progression. The choice between netherite and sculk ingots would emphasize playstyle diversity and allow the player to make intentional and interesting decisions about what armor to not only wear but pursue crafting.
to craft sculk ingots it would be 4 amethyst (gives this item another use and makes it more sought out, right now doesn't have enough uses despite being cool) around 1 sculk heart: a very rare new item that grows around ancient cities. I like that it's a living component and the armor design should reflect that, maybe with an animated texture
Its buff should be related to the deep dark, such as sound or xp related. For example, maybe it attracts xp orbs from further away, or makes sculk in the ground when you die that stores the xp you lost.
Like how netherite has bastions for people who dont like mining, skulk hearts should also get an alternative. it would be cool to have a way that appeals to redstoners. Maybe if you feed the heart lots of of xp by controlling charge lines, It can regrow its fruiting body for harvest. It would be fun for the tech ppl to build complex location-specific mob farms+charge line manipulators around the sculk hearts
