WHAT I WANT DONE:
I want Microsoft and Mojang to stop requiring an active Xbox Game Pass subscription for Minecraft multiplayer when playing locally or over Wi-Fi crossplay (LAN) on an Xbox console, provided the player already owns the game.
WHY I WANT IT DONE:
I paid full retail price to own Minecraft on my Xbox. I am trying to play with my sister, who is sitting right next to me using her mobile phone. It makes no sense that mobile and PC players can use local Wi-Fi multiplayer completely for free, while I am blocked by a console subscription paywall for trying to do the exact same thing in my own house.
This "double-dipping" model makes buying the actual game feel like a waste of money because a core feature is locked away unless I pay a recurring monthly fee. It goes entirely against the Bedrock promise of "play with anyone, anywhere."
HOW YOU SHOULD DO IT:
When the game attempts a multiplayer handshake, the system should check if the devices are on the same local network or direct friend-to-friend crossplay. If it is local LAN, bypass the Game Pass/Xbox Live subscription check entirely. Consoles should only require paid subscriptions for public matchmaking and global servers—not for playing with family in the same room.
