I know colored torches and a "chemist villager" have been suggested before, especially torches that emit colored light instead of normal lighting. I love these ideas, but I also think torches and a Chemist should have purpose and unique crafting recipes tied to chemistry-inspired materials already found in Minecraft.
Examples:
-
Purple Torch: potassium sulfate using potatoes + sulfur
-
White Torch: magnesium sulfate using wheat, kelp, or pumpkin seeds
-
Pink Torch: rubidium using beef or freshwater fish
-
Orange Torch: calcium from calcite
Minecraft already has yellow, red, green, and blue torch variants through regular, redstone, copper, and soul torches, so these would expand decoration and creativity without replacing existing content.
To make these harder to obtain, a new villager profession called the Chemist could be added. Their workstation could combine a brewing stand with a bookshelf or lectern. The Chemist could trade chemicals, colored torches, and crafting ingredients like kelp or calcite.
This system could teach younger players simple chemistry concepts through gameplay while staying family-friendly. The chemicals would only be used for torch crafting and harmless utility purposes, not weapons. If desired, potassium sulfate could even act as a stronger fertilizer like bonemeal, but faster acting.
I researched these compounds specifically to avoid dangerous chemistry and keep the feature educational, creative, and safe for Minecraft’s audience.
