This idea is motivated twofold:
1. Purple Dye is currently the only Dye that cannot be obtained directly (from ingredients) but only by Dye mixing.
2. Almost every Flower (even Wither Roses or Cactus Flowers, which grow on top of a plant like the Chorus Flower) can be crafted into a Dye. The only other exception beside Chorus Flower being the Spore Blossom.
(1.) is an understandable constraint given that irl, purple was historically one of the hardest colours to aquire from natural sources. However, I think that utilising the Chorus Flower, which is a distinctly End-game item (ha!), this limitation is preserved while also giving a chance for direct Purple Dye creation. Direct Purple Dye creation is not only desirable for the "completeness" of the Dye creation processes, but also as a means to create only one unit of Purple Dye at a time, as Dye mixing yields two.
Moreover, Purple is a natural colour choice for the Chorus Flower, given not only it's colouration, but also the fact that Chorus Fruits can be turned into Purpur Blocks. The extra step of having to Smelt the Chorus Flower is also motivated by the process of Purpur Block creation.
