I’d like armor trims to provide gameplay effects based on the material used for the trim, instead of being purely cosmetic. Right now, armor trims don’t change gameplay in any way. Since players already choose their armor and tools based on their abilities, adding functionality to trims would allow for more niche armor builds and give players more reasons to explore collect different trim templates and materials. Each trim material could provide a small, balanced passive effect when applied. A couple of trim examples are:
- Netherite trim: Increased durability
- Gold trim: Piglins remain neutral.
- Diamond trim: Reduced damage taken from critical hits.
- Copper trim: Gives a small buff when worn during rain or thunderstorms.
- Amethyst trim: Reduces the noise of the player.
- Quartz trim: Lessens the Nether fog.
- Glowstone trim (if added): Emits a small glow, making cave exploration easier.
These effects would make trim selection a meaningful gameplay choice rather than just decoration.
