Minecraft’s gear progression heavily favors endgame armor, making lower-tier gear and many utility items feel obsolete. This suggestion adds an “underarmor” layer beneath normal armor, allowing players to keep some protection while using items like Elytra, pumpkins, turtle shells, or mob heads instead of completely replacing their armor. It would also make enchanting lower-tier gear more worthwhile, since players could continue using those pieces alongside stronger outer armor rather than instantly discarding them. Combined with better enchantment scaling for weapons (think bedrock sharpness scaling so worse tier weapons could become stronger with a single sharpness more unlike now where you need 2-3 levels to go up a material tier), this could create more meaningful progression and equipment choices while still keeping Minecraft’s combat and gear system simple.
