To make ship-building work, we need a system based on building rather than crafting. Instead of crafting a finished product, players should be able to craft specialized "Hull Blocks" that possess buoyancy and unique physics. Once placed, any Block attached to these "Hull Blocks" whether expanding horizontally for a wider deck or upward for masts and cabins, becomes part of a single, cohesive entity.
This modular approach extends creative liberty. By using these "Hull Blocks" as a foundation, a ship isn't just a static object but a dynamic build that moves as one unit. This would enable the construction of anything from small rafts to towering sloops, ensuring that every player's vessel is as unique as their base. Giving these blocks the ability to "anchor" attached structures would finally bridge the gap between building and transportation.
