What do you want to happen?
I would like the Crafter to support a ghost recipe memory system. Players could assign items to specific slots as a saved pattern without actually placing the real items inside the Crafter. The Crafter would remember where each item belongs and automatically place incoming materials into the correct slots later.
Why do you want this?
This would make automated crafting systems much easier and cleaner to set up, especially in large redstone factories and technical builds. Currently, players must manually preload real items into the Crafter to lock recipes, which can be inconvenient and limiting. A memory system would improve automation, organization, and flexibility.
How would you like it to work?
When clicking a Crafter slot while holding an item, the slot would save a “ghost” version of that item instead of storing the real item. The item would only appear visually as a template.
Then, when real materials arrive through hoppers or other automation systems, the Crafter would automatically place them only into the saved slots that match the pattern. Slots not included in the pattern would remain empty.
To edit or remove the pattern, players could simply click the slots again with an empty hand.
