Apples are in-game already, but no apple trees. There are cherry trees, but no cherries. I think this should be fixed. Here are some additional ideas about gameplay mechanics:
*The fruit trees will work similarly to the sweet berry bush: the player has to plant it, wait for the tree to grow, then wait for the fruit to grow and mature.
*Fruit trees, like the cherry trees already in-game, will be rare. This will prevent players from getting too overpowered by getting too many golden apples too early.
*If players want fruit, they have to plant fruit seeds. However, if they just want the tree without the fruit (for creative builds, etc.), players can plant saplings (basically, regular trees). [This point could be left out]
*Wandering traders will occasionally sell fruit seeds/saplings (giving players added motivation to trade with the wandering traders)
*If players chop down fruit trees, like the cherry trees already in game, they’ll get planks/logs/wood/etc that is similar to the color of the fruit (apple trees = reddish colored wood, orange trees = orangish colored wood, etc.)
*Using dyes and buckets of water, players can craft paints. This will allow players to change the color of wood-based building materials to pursue a wider variety in their builds.
*Using sap and water crafts stains (using dyes while crafting will change color)
*Fruit could be used for crafting pies
