The Ashen Bones biome is a rare volcanic biome defined by dark terrain, scattered remains of massive creatures, and constant geothermal activity. The surface is primarily made of deepslate and tuff, with magma blocks spread throughout. Lava rivers flow across the biome, creating natural hazards and shaping the landscape.
At the center of the biome is a large volcano that emits smoke and can occasionally erupt, producing brief lava bursts in the surrounding area.
Large fossilized structures such as rib cages, skulls, and spines are found throughout the biome, some partially buried and others fully exposed above the surface.
The biome also contains burnt trees made from a new wood type, burnt wood. These trees are blackened, leafless, and twisted in shape, and can be crafted into building blocks.
A new hostile mob, the Ashen Skeleton, spawns in this biome. It appears charred and constantly burning, and attacks players using flaming arrows. It has a chance to drop an Ashen Bow at full durability, which functions like a regular bow but always shoots flaming arrows.
Why this biome fits Minecraft
This biome adds a distinct volcanic environment that expands exploration and world variety. The combination of hazardous terrain, unique visuals, and a new hostile mob encourages risk-reward gameplay. The burnt wood also provides a new building material, giving players more creative options while fitting naturally within the game’s existing style.
