Broken armor with armor trims and tool trims

A good use for armor trims to keep armor preserved by applying armor trims to an armor piece would give it the broken item ability like the elytra when reaching zero durability. It wouldn't be usable until repaired but would give players the opportunity to save their most precious sets of armor. Also possibly have the ability to repair the armor and tools with a "fixed" enchantment cost of 1-5 levels depending on how much to repair it. This would be a good compromise and would incentivize players to explore and find armor trims and customize rather than immediately seeking out the mending enchantment. Mending would still be useful since you wouldn't have to repair your armor with ingredients but with the downside of taking levels from you to repair the equipment. Also the addition of adding a few tool trims to give a color flair to the centers or the sides of the tools could be pretty cool and would give tools the repairing ability as well. Perhaps you could find tool trims in dungeon chests or mineshaft chests.
