Official Support for Kurdish Dialects (Sorani & Badini)

Goal:

Add official support for Kurdish (Sorani and Badini) to the language selection and adding specific glyphs used in the Kurdish alphabet.

The Problem:

Kurdish players face two major barriers:

  • Broken Connectivity: Kurdish is a cursive script; letters must change shape and link based on their position.

  • Missing Glyphs: Unique characters like ێ, ۆ, پ, ڕ, ڵ, چ, ژ, ڤ, گ often appear as characters that don't connect default to Arabic or Persian fonts.

Why It Is Needed:

  • Accessibility: Thousands of young players in the Kurdistan region and the global diaspora cannot fully enjoy the game due to language barriers.

  • Educational Potential: Minecraft: Education Edition utility is limited in Kurdish schools without native script support.

  • Community Ready: Volunteers are ready to translate strings via Crowdin immediately if the languages are listed.

Proposed Solution:

  1. Engine Update: Ensure the font renderer handles the Perso-Arabic script’s connectivity rules (Initial, Medial, and Final forms).

  2. Extended Font Support: Incorporate specific Kurdish Unicode blocks into the default font.

  3. Crowdin Integration: Open official Sorani and Badini projects.

  4. Dialect Selection: Provide separate toggles for Sorani and Badini to reflect the linguistic needs of the community.

Technical Details for Developers:

  • Script: Modified Perso-Arabic.

  • Characters to Fix: ێ, ۆ, پ, ڕ, ڵ, چ, ژ, ڤ, گ.

  • Right To Left Text Direction for Sorani

    With over 30 million Kurdish speakers worldwide, there is a massive community of players whose native language is not officially supported.

    well, really, this would be great, i know lot of old players who are kurds and play the game for decades, who would be very happy if  the kurdish dialects(sorani & badini) were added, including me, i have played minecraft since i was a child, so do lots of my friends, we would really appreciate you mojang.
