More uses for new items

In the new Minecraft updates and teasers, I've noticed a trend with each new item they add, they don't have many uses except building. An example is echo shards, the only use for them is in recovery compasses, but they should have more uses, such as using them for armor trims, a new weapon, and maybe a cool building block. Another example is with the recent trailer for the sulfur and cinnabar blocks, the only use they showed for sulfur and cinnabar was with building. I think you should be able to craft sulfur and coal into gunpowder, or even use sulfur to make a nausea potion since putting it under water gives you the effect. With cinnabar, you should be able to use it to craft poison potions, since cinnabar is used to make mercury, and maybe you could use it to make a thermometer. The final example is resin, which is only used for building. Why keep adding new stuff if the new stuff has basically no uses??
