If the End is ever updated, I hope it preserves and strengthens the liminal, desolate atmosphere that defines the dimension, rather than filling it with life in the same way the Nether was updated.
One idea that could support this tone is an “Alpha” biome. This biome would feature blocks using textures from early Alpha versions of Minecraft, creating a subtle, uncanny sense of familiarity. Unlike Alpha, however, it would still exist under the End’s dark sky and within thick, dark fog, giving it an eerie, almost out-of-place feeling.
To reinforce this atmosphere, the biome would contain no mobs at all, not even Endermen, making it feel completely empty and unnatural.
There could also be sparse, rudimentary structures that resemble something player-built, but slightly “off,” adding a layer of meta-creepiness.
