Light scepter

Light Scepter using Glowstone My idea consists of crafting an item called the "Light Scepter," made using Glowstone Dust. While playing in my Minecraft world, I found myself completely out of torches at a moment when I needed them most. To balance the game and add a layer of progression, I suggest adding a scepter whose primary function is to illuminate the surroundings while held in the off-hand. This would allow the character to keep their main hand free to perform other tasks. Even though the Nether is brighter than caves, it is still quite dark; since Glowstone is common there, this would give players a strong incentive to seek it out. The Scepter would illuminate the area only while being held. Unlike torches, it cannot be placed on the ground, effectively separating the function of both items without replacing the torch's original purpose. This maintains the importance of torches for mining and permanent lighting while giving the Scepter its own unique utility.
