Mosquitoes would be a small, flying ambient mob found in Swamps and Mangrove Swamps. Unlike Phantoms, they are daytime nuisances that add a layer of "survival realism" to humid biomes.
-
Behavior: They move in small swarms (3-6 entities) and are attracted to light sources or players/animals.
-
The "Bite": They deal a half a heart of damage but apply a "Itchy" effect for 10 seconds, which prevents the player from sprinting or slightly shakes the camera.
-
Counter-play: Players can ward them off by standing near a Campfire (smoke) or by wearing a full set of armor.
-
Frog Interaction: Frogs should actively hunt Mosquitoes, making them a vital food source and giving players a reason to keep Frogs nearby.
- You can tame them by killing the mosquito that bit you to get a blood drop. Put that in a crafting table with a bottle to get a Blood Bottle. Feed it to a mosquito to tame it and it will wear a red collar. If any other mob attacks you or any other player, the tamed mosquito can attack the mob or the other player that attacks you till the other mob/player dies.
Why add this? It makes Swamps feel more alive and gives the Frog mob a more natural role in the food chain. It also adds a minor, manageable challenge to early-game exploration.
