Obsidian could have decorative blocks made like bricks and pillars. It is a tough material, and would be a good choice to protect your base with. Obsidian pillars could have a smooth shiny texture, and generate obsidian obelisks using these pillar blocks. Combining a sign with a pillar block makes an Obsidian Pillar Block with writing on it. This can be dyed like a regular sign to change text color. Obsidian walls could also be added. Vine varients of wall blocks could be made by putting a wall and a way vine in the crafting box. This just adds a tiny texture over the block, not to be mistaken for mossy cobblestone. Obsidian stairs and slabs could be added. Obsidian is an important block in game. Its used in the nether portal, and in enchanting. I think obsidian needs a little more love.
