The Sulfur biome is a great chance to expand survival in a simple, vanilla-friendly way. A good addition would be connecting sulfur with bats to create a renewable method of crafting gunpowder without relying only on Creepers.
Bats could stay passive but gain a small function. When they gather in groups, they would naturally produce guano on the ground below them over time. Players could collect this and turn it into niter (saltpeter), which can then be combined with sulfur and charcoal to craft gunpowder.
This system creates a new exploration-based gameplay loop: find the Sulfur biome, locate bat colonies, gather guano, process it into niter, and craft gunpowder. It would not replace Creepers, which would still be the fastest source, but instead offer a slower, renewable alternative.
Overall, with the bat being added years ago for atmosphere, its the least "atmospheric" mob in minecraft. With this idea, it keeps everything simple, gives bats a real purpose, and makes the Sulfur biome feel more connected and meaningful without adding unnecessary complexity.
