The classic technique of using string as a transparent block for things like floating carpets for umbrellas or scarecrows (build aesthetics), making effective tripwire traps against other players (traps), and not letting saplings/bamboo grow or snow accumulate (utility) has been completely ruined by the new rendering of the string in 26.1 Snapshot 3.
The tripwire arrow traps in the jungle temple was always a good challenge against newer Minecraft players, helping them introduce themselves to tripwire traps. It's even good against professional players (as long as they do not pay attention).
The translucent string allowed many builders to unleash their creavitity by placing carpets on top of string to give effects such as umbrellas, overhangs, scarecrow hats, and so much more. Now that the string is using alpha cutout instead of transparent, the string stands out like a sore thumb. It is an eyesore to many players. It even makes grids of string on the ground so much more obvious, which is very difficult for players to look at.
Please, change the rendering of the string back to transparent. It enhances the experience of being in a dangerous world, as well as making builds a lot more impressive while making it not glaringly obvious.
