Double Barrel Storage

Introduce a double barrel system that can be placed both vertically and horizontally. Unlike chests, barrels are blocks rather than entities, which makes them more resource‑friendly. This feature would finally allow efficient vertical storage columns while reducing lag in large‑scale builds.

    Concur.  Let me have two (mini) barrels in one slot.  When I have a tiny build, two barrels per block would be better, and when I have walls of storage (storage room) there are a lot of things that I'd like to group in one barrel, but don't need a full block of wasted space.  An example might be a full barrel of Oak Logs, Birch Logs get another whole barrel.  and a barrel split into two.  Half for oak/half for birch (planks, stairs, fence, gates, doors, etc).  That uses three blocks for storage. One for each log, and one split into two units (say upper for oak stuff, lower for birch stuff). You could do upper/lower/ left/right, I don't really care it triggers my OCD to mix materials sometimes and it aggravates me that I have to use four blocks to split my heart happy :)  And yes, I always keep ALL of my flowers in one barrel (it's different to me...)
