The Mob tracker - Giving a use to lodestones!

In My several playthroughs in Minecraft and watching through hundreds of hours of let's plays ever since the nether update, I haven't seen the lodestone being used apart from being a decorative block. So I came up with an idea to implement them into a useful game feature. 

My pitch is as follows: 

Have you ever lost the location of a beloved pet? Or maybe you want to mark the location of a zombie villager that you want to cure. Introducing, the lodestone mob collar! This collar would work similarly to a nametag in which it can be attached to a mob of your choice, after attaching this lodestone collar you would use it as a normal lodestone and right-click the mob while holding a compass. Afterward, you would be able to follow the compass to its location whenever needed.

  No offense, but the only way you would lose your pet is if you either drop them off a cliff or something, or sit them down somewhere and run away. And if you did that, why even bring them where ever you go? And with the mob thing, just bury them with an actual lodestone over their head. No reason to use extra resources to make a collar.
