Many players want more food options in Minecraft. But I think we also need a farming update to go with it. The main concept would be to encourage players to explore more and discover new kinds of foods/crops as they travel. The new vegetation would need different requirements, but an update could also implement more ways to automate these crops. Some big changes would be adding a spoiling mechanic, where most foods that are left in chests and inventories will spoil over time. They would change into a spoiled version and will apply hunger and will barely fill your stomach. Foods like honey, raw potatoes, golden carrots, and possibly glow berries would not spoil ever. To add some realism, meat should only stack to 16 and other foods would stack to 32. (Like potatoes or carrots) Very abundant or lesser foods like berries could stack up to 64 completely. Eating food also would have a long cool down (maybe 5-10 seconds) since most people can't eat entire steaks back to back in real life. A way to avoid spoilage is by making a form of cold storage that you can place food inside and it would not spoil or significantly lower the spoil rate. It could be made using blue ice, smooth stone blocks, and iron.
A few extra ideas:
Seasons, food dropped on the ground spoils quicker later on, more pollinating mobs, bugs, cold cave biome, new cooking stations, and other food preservation methods like using salt you can mine or drying out jerky.
