Minecraft should have support still for the OpenGL 3.1, since by statistics and performance runs and checks, OpenGL 3.1 still supports the same functions and graphic capabilities just less stable as the OpenGL 3.3 version, a lot of people are getting the same error from it, and others easily play 1.18 on bedrock, which is non-sense!
I think Microsoft/Mojang should really review this thread and try to do something about it and see how their own player-base count will increase, since there's still a lot of good laptops with OpenGL 3.1 which ran 1.16.5 Minecraft version, just perfectly with no bugs, lag spikes, freezes or whatever not.
As i understood those issues might occur due to OpenGL 3.1 in 1.17, But I've done tests myself on OpenGL 3.1 and 3.3, FPS Difference in their tests are quite the same
OpenGL 3.1 = 98FPS
OpenGL 3.3 = 112FPS
