The ability to prevent mobs from aging is a great feature, since it paves the way for more player freedom and expression, as well as giving players more control over their worlds and the creations they make in them. The ability to reverse this change is also a neat part of what makes it so great, as it prevents griefing in multiplayer. It feels like a natural extension of copper waxing and shear snipping.
However, I believe this design philosophy could, and should, be implemented on a wider scale, all within the confines of vanilla survival mode, without the need to switch out any gamerules.
Here's what I believe should be implemented:
- Give players the ability to prevent sniffer eggs and frogspawn from hatching, giving players the creative freedom to build and decorate with them.
- Give players the ability to prevent vines from growing and spreading without obstructing them.
- Give players the ability to prevent grass and mycelium from spreading to nearby dirt blocks, even under optimal conditions.
- Give players the ability to prevent saplings, sugarcane, bamboo, cacti, chorus flowers, and mangrove propagules from growing without obstructing them, even under optimal conditions.
- Give players the ability to prevent crops and sweet berry bushes from growing, even under optimal conditions.
- Give players the ability to prevent cauldrons from filling with powder snow or rain water without obstructing them.
