It would be really good to have a second nether portal option. One that would allow better mapping of the height between the Overworld (-64 to 320) and the Nether (0 to 128). The existing Nether Portal behavior would be unchanged. So all existing worlds and build plans are unaffected. But the new Nether Portal would use different math for the height. I suggest Nether Height = (Overworld Height + 64) / 3. Which is Overworld Height = (3 * Netherworld Height) + 64. While a new block could be used for this. Crying obsidian could be used instead. For instance. If any block in the lowest portion of the nether portal is Crying Obsidian then the new height math is used instead. Gameplay remains nearly unchanged except for the better mapping and implementation would be fairly easy.
