I am making a separate post for this new curse which I think Minecraft may benefit from. Previously, I have posted about Curse of Persistence and Curse of Mischief.
Curse of Weakening Magic would be a curse which slowly levels down the enchantments on your tools. If you have Efficiency IV on a pickaxe, you would have a chance of it devolving into Efficiency III, etc. I don't think this curse should be able to remove enchantments entirely; just power them down.
Now, coupled with my recent post about Curse of Persistence, this curse may be able to be countered. In summary, Curse of Persistence prevents the removal of enchantments from its host tool. Potentially, if a player found a nice tool/weapon/armor with Curse of Weakening Magic, and wanted to preserve its enchantments, they could purposefully add Curse of Persistence to prevent Weakening Magic from removing the enchantment levels of their tools.
In general, I think it would be a cool mechanic to have curses that, on their own, are undesirable; but, that same curse could counteract another curse, making it a remedy in some cases. This would encourage players to think strategically about curses, and potentially use them to salvage tools. Just a fun thought.
Upvote this if you would like to see Curse of Weakening Magic in Minecraft, or more curses in general. Also, check out my other curse idea posts!
