Many go mining and find tons of redstone and with the recent change of copper being more common, many will find themselves overflowing with these resources. These should have some sort of addition to make both a bit more useful.
A copper furnace would work like a normal furnace, however, instead of using coal as fuel it would use redstone (since it is like the 'electricity' of Minecraft and copper is commonly used in wires).
Why?
Copper lacks uses and would be used as an in between for blast furnaces / smokers and regular furnaces. Whilst it would smelt / cook everything faster than a regular furnace it would do so slower than blast furnace / smoker to stop them from being bad at their specific thing therefore making them obsolete.
Whilst a regular furnace is still a viable option, this would make a use for all that leftover copper and redstone I mentioned at the beginning. For people who get fortune and go mining often will get these in excess and a reason to use something is always welcome if it improves your situation further into the game.
Coal still wouldn't be obsolete since it would be used as fuel for the blast furnace / smoker and is the simplest solution to lighting up a place such as a cave.
