The enchantment, Shards. Is an enchantment for bows and crossbows. How it works is that someone shoots an arrow into the air- over a 45 degree angle upwards. When the arrow begins to come down, it will split into a number of other arrows, corresponding to the number of the level of enchantment.
For example:
Shards 1: 5 arrows
Shards 2: 10 arrows
Shards 3: 15 arrows
Shards 4: 20arrows
To even out the battle, this enchantment (when shot with a bow or crossbow) will take as much durability as shooting a certain amount of arrows.
For Example:
Shards 1: 5 arrows
This would mean that if someone shot an arrow in to the air, 5 arrows would come down. Therefore, the bow would take as much durability as it would have took if 5 arrows were shot normally.
To Furthermore even out the battle, the enchantments Infinity 1 and mending can not be enchanted with “Shards”.
