Minimap in the form of an atlas

Keeping up with coordinates is sometimes a hassle. Sometimes you find something of interest, forget to write down where it is at, you leave, and then it is lost forever. What if, there was a way to keep up with all of that, minimap style? 

Maps, as they are in the game currently, aren't the most useful. They look quite nice on the wall, but that's about it. What if you could craft a blank atlas, maybe with a book and a blank map, and then, just by having the map in your inventory (or perhaps in your off-hand), it would display at the top of the screen. 

Now, unlike any classic minimap mod, it wouldn't just fill in for free. I think the best way for it to work, would be for it to autofill as you walked, yes, but it would require blank maps to be placed in the atlas itself. 

This inventory for the maps would be accessed by a shift right-click, and a simple right-click would bring up the full map. From here, this would allow the player to place waypoints and see the direction that they are facing. This would be the extent of the functionality, as to not make them too overpowered. Perhaps the waypoints themselves could be limited to just a symbol, and not even allow the player to name them.
