Renewable energy

The climate is something that is very important to me, and in Minecraft I feel bad when I need to smelt something and have to burn some form of fossil fuel — coal — or wood/wood-byproduct. We release a bunch of imaginary CO2 into our Minecraft worlds every time we use the furnace.

Minecraft is such a beautiful game world and we should be able to preserve it by making sustainable choices in the game.

My proposal is for some sort of renewable energy in vanilla Minecraft. Be is solar panels, wind turbines, geothermal, nuclear, or hydropower, we should be able to power our furnaces with renewable, clean energy.

  While the options would be nice, I'm not sure the rationale that it "feels bad" is logical, now if the game had some CO2 tracking/consequence, sure as that then is mechanically logical and necessary. Now in terms of alternative energy in the game, lava buckets are an option already, but I think some sort of redstone engine could be a cool mechanic in line with the other game blocks. Maybe a special structure using redstone and copper could power furnaces so it's advantage would be a continuous power it's downside a bulky setup.

  This is a game. There is no affect on this virtual environment when smelting your iron. I'd understand if this was really but this is Minecraft and I don't understand why you feel this way. However, I am interested in knowing what ideas you have for making a vanilla style renewable energy source in Minecraft. You did mention a few ideas and although this is an example I don't suppose we could incorporate nuclear power or wind turbines and keep it vanilla.
