This idea is VERY popular on the reddit, althoughIi've just learned that for some reason you can't actually take full ideas from there, so I'll re-post it here:
An extremely rare underground river, filled with bio-luminescent plankton, similar to the upcoming fireflies!
some conceptual technical:
the river is filled with particles to represent the plankton probably, flowing down the river, the spawning could work by the plankton appearing to come off the river bed, then it goes back down into it when it despawns, obstacles can be treated variably, sometimes sliding on around the obstacle, sometimes despawning on impact.
the water would be obtainable via buckets and maybe bottles, and would be something like " bucket of glowing water" every water block has a strength, representing how many particles it spawns, and how much it glows, the water itself will give off low amounts of light (i think it would be much easier that way than making the actual particles glow) the color of the water, similar to how different biomes have different water colors, will change to be more vibrant the stronger they are, you would have to balance it, making it glow, while still having the plankton stand out and appear to glow.
naturally, glow squid could have higher spawn rates in these, essentially making them glow squid farms!
imagine one of these in a lush cave :0
