As many who go back to Alpha and Beta versions know, there are issues regarding sounds not playing at all or playing the wrong sound files entirely, or skins servers being discontinued even though there are work arounds in old versions of Minecraft Java Edition.
It's been proven that it's simple enough for independent developers to fix these problems for unofficial clients (BetaCraft for example fixed most common bugs singlehandedly)
So what's stopping Mojang, a AAA game development studio from fixing these issues, as they're simply bugs within the launcher download the correct resources and not the game itself?
I've been asking for a fix for nearly 8 years. Enough is enough. If you're going to host these legacy versions for download, please make sure they work as originally intended.
I suggest we either:
- Find out the implementations needed for the client in order to play legacy versions without sound or visual issues.
OR
- Reach out to community members like the creator of BetaCraft, Moresteck and ask to implement their additions in the vanilla launcher.
Game preservation is important.
EDIT: I should mention, yes while these are technically "bug reports". Bugs for legacy versions of the game are not permitted on the bugs website. Not to mention they're not bugs with the actual game jar files, but the Minecraft launcher and how it drags resources from Mojang's servers/how it handles skins for old versions of the game, thus I created this thread for Mojang to see.
